Cool Guy Cars

For many years some people have self-defined their identities at least in part by the type of vehicle they drive. Men, in particular, have long been drawn to cars that exude an image of coolness and power. Through the years, certain automobiles have acquired images and reputations of being the types of cars that cool guys would drive.

Nowadays, for an average guy living in a city such as Kansas City, owning a Mazda Miata can instantly transform him into a cool car-guy.

Sometimes certain automobiles achieve cool-guy car status simply because of the way they’re designed while other cars achieve this status with some help from various forms of media. When certain cars are used in popular movies and television programs, sales figures for similar vehicles often increase. Specific car models and styles of cars have also become legendary after being immortalized in song by popular musical acts.

Some of the cars that are regarded as being cool are low-slung sports cars, while others are larger models that became cool years after they were introduced.

Even though they were produced many years ago, Chevrolet automobiles from 1955-1957 are widely considered to be some of the most classic cool-guy cars ever made. The 1955-1957 Chevrolet 150, 210 and Bel Air models have been the serious hot-rodder’s car of choice since shortly after their introduction. These cars have been used in a multitude of movies and music videos and are still restored and driven today.

Similar in size and overall appearance, the Pontiac Firebird and the Chevrolet Camaro are two sleek and powerful muscle/sports cars that have been exemplifying automotive coolness since the 1960s. Along with the Pontiac GTO and the Chevrolet Malibu and Chevelle SS models, these powerful muscle cars redefined what makes an automobile a classic cool-guy car.

Some classic cool cars from the 1960s and ’70s have been updated and re-introduced to the motoring public in recent years. Muscle cars such as the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger are as popular now as they were when they were first introduced.

The Ford Mustang is a sporty automobile that garnered a reputation of being a cool car almost as soon as it hit the market in the 1960s. Still going strong today, the Mustang still retains much of its original design in current models.

There are plenty of other classic cars with cool reputations out there but they generally come with hefty price tags. Among the most classic cool cars are 1960s era Cadillac sedans, the Chevrolet Corvette, the Jaguar XKE, MG Midgets and MGBs, all Triumphs, Aston Martins, Ferraris and DeLoreans.

Actually, the guy with the Mazda Miata in Kansas City is still driving a pretty cool car.
